Freelance Social Media Consultant (Workforce Project) 

Role type: Freelance, up to 4 hours per week, flexible working
Location: Remote  
Reports to: Workforce Manager 
Pay: Hourly rate of pay to be discussed for the consultant to deliver, per month: blog post content, social media graphics and/or stories, monthly analysis and reporting, and social media strategy development. It is expected that this work will take a maximum of 4 hours per week / 16 hours per month to complete, but this can be discussed.
Length of contract: Consultancy agreement for 6 months, with possibility of ongoing work with the organisation. 

The Surrey Care Association provides guidance and support to organisations in Surrey across a range of settings, including residential homes, nursing homes, home-based care, supported living, learning disability, and in the community. We advocate for the social care sector at a regional and national level, and champion the industry’s contribution to the nation’s health and wellbeing. We are also the proud organisers of a hugely successful annual awards ceremony, now in its 14th year, in which we say “thank you” to the care profession.   

The Surrey Care Association’s workforce project aims to tackle one of the biggest challenges facing adult social care: attracting, recruiting and retaining people with the right values and skills to work in the care sector.  We are now looking to recruit a freelance social media consultant to support the objectives of the workforce project. 

Main tasks and responsibilities  

  • Create and schedule engaging content, including SEO-optimised blog posts, short videos, and other social media posts to promote job vacancies and careers in social care  
  • Contribute ideas and monitoring trends 
  • Define target audiences, identify ways to reach them, and drive traffic to existing and soon-to-be launched content   
  • Re-share content about adult social care workforce, relating it to Surrey where necessary 
  • Assist with raising the profile of the Surrey Care Association as a source of guidance and information relating to careers in social care  

Person specification 

Essential  

  • Experience of creating social media content on a range of platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok 
  • Expertise in SEO optimisation and knowledge of best practice across the different platforms   
  • Creative flair, strong writing skills and excellent command of English  
  • Good sense of visual design to create aesthetically appealing content  
  • Ability to undertake research and gather information   
  • Confidence in using Canva, Google Suite, and social media management platforms  
  • Ability to monitor, measure and report on the performance of social media activity  
  • Well organised, efficient and able to work on own initiative and independently  

Desirable 

  • Working knowledge of WordPress   
  • Experience of adult social care, including personal, voluntary or paid work  
  • Reasonable understanding of the post-16 education system, qualification levels and routes into training (T Levels, apprenticeships, university)
