Cold Weather Alert CONTINUES extension
From 17 -21 January
A Cold Weather YELLOW (response) alert has been issued by UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office.
This has been CONTINUED to extend from 17-21 January. A previous alert that ended on 14 January 2025 had followed another at the beginning of the month.
‘This is an important stage for social and healthcare services who will be working to ensure action to reduce harm from cold temperatures particularly in high-risk groups.’
As you may recall weather alerts have been updated and a yellow weather alert means that:
-
- We may see a rise in deaths among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions
- An increased demand in health services
- Temperatures in hospitals, care homes and clinics may have temperatures dropping below recommended levels for assessing health risks
- Challenges keeping indoor temperatures at recommended 18°C for vulnerable people
- Staff travel delays and other sectors being impacted (transport and energy)
