Surrey Care Association – response on recent rioting

Surrey Care Association stands against racism

We are very shocked to see the rioting and disorder across many towns and cities over the last few days, whipped up by extremists, who seek to blame migrants for their issues. This is ignorant and racist.  Even in areas where riots have not happened, people have reported an upsurge in racist abuse.

At Surrey Care Association we support a zero-tolerance policy towards racism and we seek to support everyone across our sector to be free from any form of discrimination, fear and hatred.

We see the richness that many generations of migrants from many different heritages have made to be a part of the Surrey community.  In particular, health and social care has benefited significantly from a diversity of people and could not run without this broad talent and commitment from people from all backgrounds.

Please can we ask you as our members to support colleagues that may be feeling anxious and afraid during this time, to check in with them and to always be kind.   It is a minority of unpleasant people, and we stand firmly together against them.

Thank you,

Surrey Care Association
