What is the Care Certificate?
The Care Certificate is a set of standards that health and social care support workers must meet to provide high-quality care. It uses a framework of 15 standards to support workers’ induction and development. It was developed by Health Education England, Skills for Care, and Skills for Health in 2015. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) considers the Care Certificate to be the benchmark of induction into the health and social care sector.
The standards include topics such as:
- Duty of care
- Equality and diversity
- Working in a person-centered way
- Communication
- Privacy and dignity
- Safeguarding adults and children
- Basic life support
- Health and safety
- Handling information
- Infection prevention and control
To earn the certificate, you must complete and assess all 15 standards, which requires both theoretical study and practical application. You can use e-learning courses to support the theoretical component.
