Government announces fast-track support for people with motor neurone disease
People with motor neurone disease (MND) are set to be fast-tracked to improve service provision and support.
The Government has announced a new fast-track pathway designed to improve access to care and support for people living with motor neurone disease (MND). The initiative aims to reduce delays, improve coordination between health, social care and housing services, and make it easier for individuals and families to access the support they need.
The announcement forms part of the Government’s wider social care reform programme and follows recommendations highlighting the need for faster, more joined-up support for people affected by MND. Measures will include improved collaboration between services, planning for changing care needs, and speeding up access to home adaptations and other support.
The new pathway will be developed in partnership with people living with MND, carers, specialist organisations and professionals across health, social care and housing. It draws on examples of integrated care models designed to provide more coordinated, person-centred support.
The Government has also confirmed that the work will contribute to its wider ambition to reform social care and improve outcomes for people with complex care and support needs.
